Abstract

The debate about the arya race invasion theory (aryan invasion theory) in the history of Hinduism continues to occur as new opinions emerge against the theory. Surprisingly in Indonesia, various references in the form of books and journals still use the Aryan invasion theory as one of the sub-topics of discussion in the study of Hindu history. On that basis, this research was conducted in order to compare the two opposing opinions between western and eastern philosophers and experts regarding the Aryan race invasion theory.

The method used in this research is the library research method, which is a type of research that limits its activities only to library collection materials without the need to do field research. By using a comparative descriptive approach, namely comparing the results and ideas of a person's thoughts through searching, analyzing, making interpretations and generalizing the results of the research conducted.

The results of western theoretical research argue that the Indus civilization which was the origin of Hindu civilization in India which then spread to various regions was originally brought by a group of intelligent people and came from superior races who came from the European region (details of today's Germany. Great historical figures and philologists who focus on this theory, such as Arnold J, Toynbee, Max Muller and Allan Menzies, meanwhile, eastern thought argues that the word arya actually refers to concepts in the Vedic scriptures. For example, the word Arya is mentioned 36 times in the Reg Veda and also in other puranic literature.
